How it works
Getting a new roof on your home is an excellent investment, though it is no small undertaking. The process can be daunting for some, and this is perfectly understandable. If you haven’t seen a roof replacement before, it can be difficult to know what to expect and it can also be a bit scary when your house is in one of the middle stages of installation and you can see parts of the house that you have never seen before. Some have described putting a new roof on your home as a domestic “major surgery”, and it is a fairly accurate way to put it.
The roof of your home is one of the major protective forces between the wind and weather and your inside rooms. If the roof is failing, a swift repair or replacement will make sure everything is alright. It is no small task, though, and can often look a bit frightening from the outset.
When you work with Calgary Roofing, you do not need to worry about a single thing. We have many years of experience in the roofing business and know our way around every challenge. To help prepare you for what is ahead with the installation of your new roof, we have created this guide to the general roofing process.
The first step of the entire roofing process is a conversation with one of our contractors. We have an excellent team of experts and we are more than happy to come out to your property and give you a quote free of charge and free from obligation. Pick up the phone and give us a call so we can discuss all of your roofing options. Whatever it is that you need, we have the skills and materials needed to get it done.
Once you have agreed to work with us and we have collaborated together to choose the best roofing material for your home and area, we will schedule a date to begin. A few days before the chosen date for installation, we will deliver a dumpster to your home. This will be used for the old materials that are removed from your roof.
A few days before the project begins, a delivery of roofing materials will also arrive at your home. This may be shingles, metal roofing, or whatever material you have selected. We will make sure that we let you know exactly when this shipment will be arriving, as it is often beneficial for our clients to have someone at home when they arrive so that they can direct their placement to the most convenient location.
On the first day of the project, a crew will arrive at your house fairly early in the morning. Exact time can easily be worked out with your particular contractor. You will want to secure all valuable items that you have in your garden or yard, such as statues and fountains, as they will be at increased risk of damage during the roofing process. It is also best to keep pets indoors and to ask small children to remain inside as well, as there is a possibility of roofing material falling down from above. Talk to your contractor about any special requests that you have, such as having the gates closed behind workers or being careful in a particular area of the yard.
Workers will begin to remove the old roofing materials from the building. This can be a bit frightening for homeowners as the building suddenly looks rather naked and the wood beneath being is revealed. There is no cause for alarm, however, as this is exactly how things are supposed to be progressing. The removal process typically takes up most of the first day of the project, and tarps will be laid out to protect the roof overnight.
The installation process is fairly straightforward. You can watch your roofing team transform your now-naked roof into a brand new, well-covered one.
Depending on the size of your roof, the installation process can take between two and four days. If you have any questions throughout the process, please do ask! We are always more than happy to discuss your concerns.
